New York State Boat Launching Sites

New York City Water Trail

New York State owns and operates over 350 boating access sites. These sites enable the public to reach and use the state's tremendous water resources. (D) designates a site operated by DEC; (P) indicates a site operated by the Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation; (M) indicates a site operated by a city, town, village or other municipality; and (C) indicates a site operated by the Canal Corporation.

The following definitions will assist you in determining if a particular site will accommodate your boat:

• Hard surface or concrete ramp--site affords float-off and float-on launching for most trailered boats.
• Beach launch--no float-off or float-on trailered boat capability. Sites will accommodate the approach to the water's edge of small and light trailered boats. Boat may then be pushed on or off trailer. Usually shallow areas.
• Hand launch--no trailer capacity. Boats must be hand carried to the water.
• Car top launch--For canoe/kayak launching. Limited parking available.

Alder Lake (D) - Ulster County, Town of Hardenburgh, off Route 54, 2 1/2 miles northeast of the Hamlet of Turnwood. Hand launching. Parking for five cars. Electric motors only.

Allegheny Reservoir (P) - Allegany State Park (Quaker Area) Friends Boat Launch, Cattaraugus County. On Route 280, 2 1/2 miles south of Route 17 (Southern Tier Expressway), Exit 18. Concrete ramp. Parking for 35 cars and trailers.

Allegany River (D) - Cattaraugus County, Town of Allegany. Located off West River Road, south of the Village of Allegany, south side of the Allegany River. Hand launching. Gravel surface. Parking for 8-10 cars.

Allen Lake (D) - Allen Lake Multiple Use Area, Allegany County. Town of Allen, northeast of the Village of Belfast, off West Hill Road. Hand launching. Electric motors permitted. Parking for 25 cars.

Alma Pond (D) - Allegany County, Town of Alma, three miles east of village of Alma and southwest of Village of Wellsville on County Road 38. Hand launch, parking for ten cars. Electric motors permitted.

Balsam Pond (D) - Chenango County, off County Route 7, approximately four miles north of the Hamlet of McDonough. Hand launching. Parking for 8 cars and trailer.

Basher Kill Marsh (D) - Sullivan County, 4 miles south of Wurtsboro. Four hand launches off Route 209, Haven Road and South Road. Parking for 8-20 cars per site. Electric motors only.

Bear Lake (D) - Chautauqua County, Town of Stockton, just north of the Hamlet of Stockton off Bear Lake Road. Hand launching. Parking for 10 cars.

Bear Swamp Pond (D) - Otsego County, Bear Swamp State Forest. Off truck trail which starts on the east side of Buttermilk Hill Road approximately 3/4 mile south of NY Route 165, just east of the Hamlet of South Valley. Parking for 5 cars. Hand launch.

Black Creek (D) - Monroe County. On Black Creek Road, off Route 252 1/4 miles west of Route 383. Concrete ramp. Parking for 10 cars and trailers.

Black Lake (P) - St. Lawrence County. Adjacent to Hammonds-Edwardsville County Road, two miles west of the Hamlet of Edwardsville in Town of Morristown. Concrete launching ramp. Parking for 55 cars and trailers.

Black River

• (D) - Lewis County. Adjacent to Route 410, 1/2 mile northeast of the Village of Castorland. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 22 cars and trailers.
• (D) - Lewis county. Town of Turin. Off Co. Rt. 36, Burdick's Crossing. Beach launch. Parking for 10 cars and trailers.
• (D) - Lewis County. At Glenfield on County Route 40. Hard surface ramp. Parking for 20 cars and trailers. Maintained by the town of Martinburg.
• (D) - Lewis County. At Beach's Bridge on Number Four Road east of Village of Lowville. Hard surface ramp. Parking for ten cars and trailers.
• (M) - Jefferson County. Fish Island, east of Route 180 in the Village of Dexter. Hard surface ramp. Parking for 30 cars and trailers. Site owned, operated and maintained by the Village of Dexter.
• (M) - Jefferson County. In Village of Dexter, west of Route 180 on Liberty Street. Hard surface ramps. Parking for 30 cars and trailers. Site owned, operated and maintained by the Village of Dexter.

Black River Pond (P) - Cherry Plain State Park, Rensselaer County. Off NYS Route 22, 1 1/2 miles north of the Hamlet of Stephentown. Cartop launch for rowboats, canoes, sailboats. No motors permitted. Launching ramp. Parking for 10 cars and trailers. Fee to enter park.

Bog River Flow (D) - St. Lawrence County. Off Route 421 south of the Village of Tupper Lake, Franklin County. Hand launch. Parking for eight cars. No motors permitted on the river.

Brant Lake (D) - Warren County, on Route 8. One mile northeast of the Hamlet of Brant Lake. Parking for 11 cars and trailers. Hard surface launch ramp.

Brown Tract Pond (D) - Campground. Lower Brown Trout Pond, Hamilton County. Off Route 28 on Brown Tract Pond Road, seven miles east of the Hamlet of Eagle Bay. Hand Launching. Parking for ten cars. No motors permitted.

Buck Pond (D) - Campground, Franklin County. Off Route 30, 12 miles east of the Hamlet of Paul Smiths. Hard surface ramp. Parking for 20 cars and trailers.

Buffalo River

• (D) - Erie County, City of Buffalo. Located between Ohio Street and Michigan Street Bridges next to Great Lakes Paper. Hand launch, parking for 15 cars. Lower entrance site for access to Buffalo River Canoe Trail.
• (D) - Erie County, City of Buffalo. Located off thruway exit for Clinton Avenue (East) then south on Harlem Road 1/2 mile. Parking for 25 cars. Hand launching only. Upper entrance site for Buffalo River Canoe Trail.

Bufferfield Lake (D) - Jefferson County, Off Town Road, 1/2 mile east of the Hamlet of Redwood. Hard surface launching ramp, parking for 27 cars and trailers.

Canandaigua Lake

• (P) - Ontario County, Canandaigua State Marine Park. Off Route 20 in the City of Canandaigua. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 110 cars and trailers.
• (D) - Ontario County. Adjacent to Route 21, three miles north of the Village of Naples. Concrete launching ramp. Parking for 80 cars and trailers.
• (D) - Ontario County. On West Lake Road, 6 1/2 miles south of the City of Canandaigua. Concrete ramp. Parking for 25 cars and trailers. Restricted to winter launching, and then only when state park site at north end is unusable.

Canandaigua Outlet (D) - Ontario County. On Latting Road 1/4 mile north of County Road 19. Hand launching. Parking for six cars.

Canadarago Lake (P) - Otsego County. Adjacent to Route 28, three miles south of Village of Richfield Springs. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 40 cars and trailers.

Canopus Lake (P) - Putnam County, Clarence Fahnestock State Park. Off Route 301, nine miles east of the Village of Cold Springs. Permit required, available from park manger. Parking for ten cars. Hand launch. Electric motors only.

Carmans River (D) - Suffolk County. Hamlet of Shirley, off Montauk Highway approximately one mile west of William Floyd Parkway. Parking for ten cars. Hand launching. 300 yard carry required. No gasoline motors. Via cooperative agreement with Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge.

Caroga Lake (D) - Campground, Fulton County. On Route 29A, nine miles northwest of the City of Gloversville. Beach launch. Parking for 15 cars and trailers.

Carters Pond (D) - Washington County, on Route 338, two miles south of the Hamlet of Cossayuna. Hand launching, parking for ten cars. Electric motors only.

Cascade Lakes (D) (upper and lower) - Essex County. On Route 73, six miles northwest of the Hamlet of Keene. Hand launching. Parking for 15 cars. No motors.

Case Lake (D) - Cattaraugus County. Off County Road 24, 1 1/2 miles east of the Village of Franklinville. Hand launching. Parking for 52 cars. Electric motors only.

Cassadaga Lake (D) - Chautauqua County. Off Route 60 in the Hamlet of Lily Dale. Gravel launch. Parking for 20 cars and trailers.

Cattaraugus Creek (D) - Cattaraugus County, Zoar Valley. Approximately 12 miles north of the Village of Otto on County Route 11. Canoes and shallow draft boats only - no motors. Hand launch only. Parking for approximately 40 cars.

Cayuga Lake

• (D) - Cayuga County, Mudlock Canal Park. Off Route 90 on River Road, three miles north of the Village of Cayuga. Concrete ramp. Parking for 16 cars and trailers.
• (P) - Cayuga County, Long Point State Park. Off Route 90, one mile southwest of Aurora. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 35 cars.
• (P) - Seneca County, Cayuga Lake State Park. Route 89, three miles east of the Village of Seneca Falls. Concrete ramp. Pumpout. Parking for 50 cars and trailers.
• (P) - Seneca County, Dean's Cove State Marine Park. On Route 89, 24 miles north of Ithaca. Two concrete ramps. Parking for 48 cars and trailers.

Chittning Pond(D) - Oneida County. Adjacent to Route 20, four miles west of the Village of Bridgewater. Beach launching. Parking for 20 cars.

Chodikee Lake (D) - Ulster County. Five miles east of New Paltz off Route 299. Hand launching. Electric motors permitted. Gasoline motors prohibited. Parking for 20 cars.

Clear Pond (D) - Lewis County. Off Long Pond Road, four miles northeast of the Village of Croghan. Hand launching. Parking for three cars. Site provided via FWMA agreement with private landowners. No motors.

Cliff Lake (D) - Sullivan County. Walk-in access 0.6 miles from parking lot. Access road just end of Mangaup River bridge off County Route 43, follow signs to parking. Open May 1-November 30. Parking for eight cars. Electric motors only.

Cowell Pond (D) - Jefferson County. Off Route 3 on Montario Point Road. Beach launch. Parking for five cars and trailers.

Conesus Inlet (D) - Livingston County. (Wildlife Management Area) South end of Conesus Lake, off Route 256. Parking for 40 cars. Hand launching.

Conesus Lake

• (P) - Livingston County. From Route 390, Exit 8, three miles east on Route 20A, four miles south on East Lake Road. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 45 cars and trailers.
• (D) - Livingston County, Sand Point. On Route 20A in the Hamlet of Lakeville. Hand launching. Parking for 50 cars.
• (D) - Livingston County, Pebble Beach. On Pebble Beach Road, 1/4 mile south of Route 20A in the Hamlet of Lakeville. Hand launching. Parking for 120 cars.

Cossayuna Lake (D) - Washington County. Off Route 40 at the Hamlet of South Argyle, east on County Route 49 to East Shore Road. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 30 cars and trailers.

Cranberry Lake (D) - St. Lawrence County. Off Route 3, adjacent to the outlet dam in the Village of Cranberry Lake. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 15 cars and trailers.

Cross Lake (C) - Cayuga County. In the Town of Cato, Located on Rur Rd. next to Cross Lake Boat Club. Concrete ramp. Parking for 10 cars and trailers.

Crystal Lake (D) - Sullivan County. Off Lake Tennanah Road on Crystal Lake Road, 8 miles southwest of the Hamlet of Roscoe. Hand launching. Parking for 30 cars 0.1 mile from the lake. Lakeside parking for 5 cars. Electric motors only.

Cuba Lake (P) - Allegany County, Cuba Reservation State Park . On Route 305, 2 miles north of the Village of Cuba. Beach launch. Operated by OGS & CUBA Lake dist.

Delaware River

• (D)- Delaware County, (coop. agreement with the Village of Hancock) off Bard Parker Road, south edge of the village off NY Route 97. Parking for 15 cars. Hand launch.

Follensby Clear Pond (D) - Franklin County. Route 30, 2 miles south of the Hamlet of Saranac Inn. Beach launching. Parking for 6 cars and trailers.

Forestport Reservoir (D) - Oneida County. On Bardwell Mill Road, west of Route 28. Beach launch. Parking for 5 cars and trailers. Maintained by Algonquin Power Company and FERC license.

Forge Pond (D) - Suffolk County, Peconic River. Hamlet of Calverton. On South River Road 1/2 mile east of Edwards Avenue. Parking for 10 cars. Hand launch.

Forked Lake (D) - Hamilton County, Campground. Off Route 30, 3 miles west of Hamlet of Deerland. Beach launch. Parking for 40 cars and trailers.

Fort Pond (D) - Suffolk County. Off Edgemere Road in the Village of Montauk. Beach launching. No gas motors. Parking for 20 cars.

Fourth Lake (D) - Hamilton County, Inlet. On Route 28, 10 miles east of Old Forge. Hard surface launching ramp. Parking for 25 cars and trailers. (D) - Herkimer County. Alger Island State Campground, 8 miles northeast of Old Forge on South Shore Road. Hand launching. Parking for 25 cars.

Fourth Lake (D) - Warren County. Luzerne Campground. On Route 9N, 8 miles southwest of the Village of Lake George. Hand launching. No motors permitted. Parking for 3 cars.

Franklin Falls Flow (D) - Essex County. Off Route 3 on County Route 18, 5 miles east of the Hamlet of Bloomingdale. Hand launch. Parking for 5 cars.

Genesee River

• (D) - Monroe County, Brown's Bridge. On County Route 253, 2 miles east of the Hamlet of Scottsville. Hand launching. Parking for 12 cars.
• (D) - Monroe County. On Route 251, 2 miles southeast of Scottsville. Hand launching. Parking for 7 cars.

Goodyear Lake (D) - Otsego County, at end of Silliman Cove Road which is on the west side of County Route 35 approximately 1 mile north of its junction with NY 7. Parking for 15 cars. Hand launch.

Grass River

• (D) - St. Lawrence County. On Route 68, 3 miles northwest of the Village of Canton. Hard surface launching ramp suitable for canoes and small motor boats. Parking for 25 cars and trailers.
• (D) - St. Lawrence County. Town of Rossie. Off Butler Road. Beach launch. Parking for 5 cars.

Grafton Lakes

• (P) - Rensselaer County, Second Pond. Grafton Lake State Park. Off Route 2 in Grafton. Hard surface ramp and car top launching. Parking for 5 cars. No motors.

Great Sacandaga Lake

• (P) - Suffolk County, Fire Island Inlet. Captree State Park. Just east of intersection of Ocean Parkway and Robert Moses Causeway. Paved ramp with parking for 67 cars and trailers. Boat pumpout and wash down area.

Green Lake (D) - Greene County on Valley Road, off County Route 49 approximately 2 miles north of the Village of Leeds. Hand launch. Parking for 10 cars.

Guilford Lake (D) - Chenango County. Near lake outlet along County Route 35. Parking for 10 cars. Hand launching only.

Guyanoga Creek (D) - Yates County. On Route 54A in the Hamlet of Branchport. Hard surface ramp. Parking for 6 cars and trailers.

Wildwood Lake (D) - Suffolk County. Town of Southampton. Off Lakeview, Old Westchester Road 1/4 mile south of Route 51. Parking for 6 cars. Beach launch. Electric motors only

Yellow Lake - St. Lawrence County. Town of Macomb. Off Hall Road. Hand launch. Parking for 5 cars.
